Villages
of Kintamani and penelokan. This mountain area is home of Bali's
largest lake, where smoke can still be seen gently rising from
the crater of Mountain Batur. The ares hosts a number of hot
springs and one of Bali's oldest villages, the Bali Aga settlementof
Trunyan.
- The
Mother temple at Besakih is in the foothills of the holy mountain,
Gunung Agung, and is home to more than 80 shrines dedicated to
various deities and spirits that populate the Balinese heavens.
- Ubud,
in the central foothills, is viewed as Bali's artistic centre
and is the best place to view paintings and fine arts.
